About IQ Scores

IQ is defined as the Intelligence Quotient which is a score measuring intelligence. It was first proposed by psychologists in the early twentieth century and has since been used to test intelligence. It can be measured through IQ tests whose results follow normal distributions. To get an idea of what these tests are like, check out our sample IQ tests.

IQ Distribution and Median Score

The distribution of IQ scores is a normal distribution with a median score of 100 and a standard deviation of 15. This means that 50% of people get a score lower than 100 and 50% get a higher score and roughly 68% fall within one standard deviation up or down from the mean; in this case an IQ score of 85 – 115.
